Welcome to Understanding Botanical Species Concepts

Welcome to Understanding Botanical Species Concepts. The purpose of this website is to help in stimulating research into further development of methodology for alpha taxonomy.

This Scratchpad began during a postgraduate course (Nov-Dec 2012) at the Instituto de Biociências, Universidade de São Paulo (USP): The history of the concept of species in botany: reconciling theory and practice. The course was organized by Simon Mayo (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew) and Renato Mello-Silva (USP). The photos on the home page show the participants. We were very happy to welcome Kevin Nixon to the class while he was in town to give a lecture on homology at USP.

Scratchpads developed and conceived by (alphabetical): Ed Baker, Katherine Bouton Alice Heaton Dimitris Koureas, Laurence Livermore, Dave Roberts, Simon Rycroft, Ben Scott, Vince Smith
